Fujifilm 23mm f/1.4 R: New Lens for X-Series Cameras

Fuji X-Mount XF 23mm f/1.4 R

Last night, Fujifilm announced a new large aperture lens for their X-mount camera system: the 23mm f/1.4 R, which provides a field of view equivalent to a 35mm lens on a full-frame camera. Cameras like the Fuji X-E1 and X-Pro1 are very popular with street photographers, making this classic street-shooting focal length a very attractive offering.

As with many lenses for mirrorless cameras, the optical design for the 23mm f/1.4 is relatively simple. It uses only three elements in one group, and one additional aspherical element. Even with it’s high quality metal construction, the result is a very compact and  lightweight lens, at only 10.6oz and 2.5″ in length. It is fitted with seven rounded aperture blades for buttery smooth bokeh, or at least, as smooth as can be expected from a wide angle lens.

Fuji expects the lens to hit warehouse shelves on October 16th, with a price tag just under $850. It is currently available for pre-order from Amazon.com and B&H Photo.
