Nikon Lenses

  1. Hello Matthew Thank you for the site!

I have a quick question. I just got myself a SLR and am in need of a prime lense.

I have been looking around and saw:

1: Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR

    and

2.Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens for Nikon Digital SLR

Which one would you recomend or is there another lens that qould be better?

also what is the diffrence between lenses?

    Thanks- Jose G.

  2. Hi Joseph,

Looks like I’m a little behind schedule on this Nikon section!

    As for your question, though…

I’m afraid that I can’t be a lot of help here; I have very little experience with these two lenses… so my recommendation is based on what I’ve heard from other photographers. Keep this in mind: any time that you create a lens with a really great zoom range, the optical quality will suffer somewhere, either on the telephoto end of the range, or the wide-angle end. Rarely in the middle. So, with a lens like the two you mention, you shouldn’t expect to get the absolute best image quality possible… instead, you’ll get great versatility and convenience.

That said, I’d pick the Tamron. It seems to have more reliable image quality at the long end, where the Sigma is pretty soft.
