Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G lens announced

Sony Announces Full-Frame 20mm f/1.8 G Prime Lens

Sony announced the FE 20mm f/1.8G lens this morning, the widest full-frame prime currently available in the lineup. This prime is relatively compact (13oz/373g) and uses a pair of XD linear motors for fast autofocus, making it a great option for action photographers or those who shoot video. On APS-C models like the a6400, the lens will provide the perspective of a 35mm lens, making it a great option for street and travel photographers.

Night-sky photographers will appreciate the optical design that reproduces pinpoint light sources without coma/sagittal flare. The optical formula contains four special glass elements (12 elements in 14 groups, total) and can focus down to 7.5 inches, to make use of that wide-angle perspective.

This lens will join the Tamron 20mm f/2.8 ($349) and Tokina Firin 20mm f/2 ($949) lenses in an increasingly crowded Sony E-Mount marketplace.

Price & Availability

The new FE 20mm f/1.8 G lens will begin shipping in March at a price of $899. Check here to see if the lens is available for pre-order from Adorama or B&H Photo.
