Canon 14-35mm f/4L IS USM Lens Announced

This morning, Canon officially announced the RF mount 14-35mm f/4L IS USM lens for their mirrorless R-series cameras. With this lens, Canon promises extremely sharp optics (of course), 5.5 stops of in-lens image stabilization (7 stops when combined with IBIS), and fast, quiet autofocus for video shooting with a nano-USM focusing motor.

Like most new Canon RF lenses, the 14-35 f/4L has a control ring on the barrel that can be customized to adjust aperture, shutter speed, ISO, or exposure compensation. The lens body will weigh just over a pound (1.2lbs., 540g) making it quite compact for a lens of this zoom range, making it ideal for travel and vlogging.

According to Canon, the RF 14-35mm f/4L lens will have a minimum focus distance of 8 inches at all focal lengths, giving it some capability as a close-up lens.

Price and Availability

Canon says that the MSRP of this lens will be about $1700 in the USA, and will begin shipping in August. While not cheap for an f/4 lens, this is a wonderfully compact and versatile lens that will probably be a popular addition to the camera bags of many Canon R shooters.

Needless to say, you can pre-order the 14-35 f/4L from B&H Photo or Adorama.
